Believe it or not, with the new High-Efficiency Washers, detergent use can strongly effect the performance of your washer. Check to see if your washer has a specific type of detergent you should use. Also, do not use too much detergent. Friction helps get your clothes clean. Too much detergent causes excess suds and not enough friction to get your clothes clean. Also, excess detergent can lead to buildup. Build up can put extra wear and tear on the machine. Overloading a machine is a big "no-no"...it's one major reason the machines break. Everyone has heard the dangers and downfalls of not cleaning out your lint filter on the dryer, but did you know you should be doing the same on your washer? Yes! Washers need cleared of lint and many times there is a filter inside the agitator. Every month or so, you should also rinse your machine out by running water through it, no laundry, nor soap. This will remove soap build-up. In some cases, vinegar can be used as a cleaner, but if you want to use an actual cleaner, it is better to use one that’s specifically made for washing machines since vinegar could damage rubber seals and hoses, which could lead to leaks. Speaking of hoses, they need checked regularly as well. Also, make sure your machines have proper spacing between them and the walls (4" is recommended for most) and that they are kept level. Other helpful hints: Keep a drip pan under the washer to prevent potential water damage and leave the lid up to avoid mildewing and odors. Seem like a lot to remember? Call Chuck's Appliance Repair. We can regularly service your machines for you and do any srepairs necessary as well.
Dishwashers require regular cleaning and maintenance. Washing all of the materials off of your dishes can take their toll. For basic cleaning and/or odors, fill a bowl with distilled white vinegar in it on the top rack, then run a normal cycle. After this has completed, pour 1cup baking soda in the bottom of the dishwasher and run a another cycle. This should be done on a monthly basis. If you do this, your dishwasher should stay clean and odor free! If you're regularly cleaning your dishwasher, but it isn't cleaning your dishes then it's time to call Chuck's Appliance Repair!
There is not a perfect standard for the frequency to clean a refrigerator. A complete cleaning every 2-3 months should suffice, but that depends on you and your use, what you put into it, how much the doors open and close, etc. Keeping your fridge clean will help to prevent food spoilage and cross-contamination of bacteria that causes foodborne illness which can survive at 40º F. Cleaning the Fridge is only part of the maintenance though. You should check the temperature regularly, assure the seals on the doors are working properly, and believe it or not, you should keep things in the fridge! Keeping the coils cleaned on your fridge and blowing out the back of the system should also be done regularly. If you aren't sure how to do these things, Call Chuck's Appliance Repair and we will service your refrigeration system, keeping it running well for years to come.
